As you get older, being physically active into later life can be challenging. This isn’t always due to your age or ability.
Barriers to physical activityin older people include:
poverty
location
social groups
social isolation
long-term health conditions
According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of people aged 60 or over is expected to pass the 20 million mark by 2030. With this ageing population Active Cheshire aims to support people to maintain good health as they get older. Physical activity will contribute to this.
In addition, older adults tend to use health and social care services more than other age groups. If we can help individuals to make small improvements in their physical activity, we believe it can significantly reduce pressure on teams and services.
Our mission
The Sport England Active Lives survey found that on average 36.1% of the population over 65 are inactive, doing less than 30 minutes activity per week.
WE WILL
Listen and learn
from established networks where data, insight and research marry lived experience, to design innovative solutions which meet the needs of our increasingly aging population.
Seek to remove barriers
to participation in physical activity for older people, utilising the natural and built environment at a hyper local level.
POSITIVE OUTCOMES
Improved management of long-term health conditions
resulting in reduced NHS demand.
Maintaining physical activity levels
to increase independence and reduced social isolation.
Active Cheshire CONNECTED will work in partnership with local trusted organisations to support communities to use new and existing infrastructure (including digital) to ensure ageing well means more years of happy, healthy life.
